Formula 1 is a massive sport with millions of fans worldwide. It is no surprise that fans are ready to spend big bucks to get their hands on exclusive memorabilia. Items of top drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen often sell for exuberant amounts. This was again seen in the Netflix series, ‘King of Collectibles: the Goldin Touch.’

The series showcases Ken Goldin and his team hunting for rare collectibles. In the fifth and sixth episodes of the show, Goldin manages to get his hands on a one-of-a-kind Lewis Hamilton card. This exclusive card is owned by 16-year-old Nicolas Gagnon and his father from Quebec. The card is the only 2020 Topps Chrome F1 Superfractor 1/1 Lewis Hamilton.

Moreover, the card is even autographed by the 7-time world champion himself. Carlo Civitella mentions the impact such a collectible can have. He said, “This could change the course of everything. This is my favorite kind of deal. Carlo informs the father-son pairing that a private buyer is willing to pay $750,000 for the Hamilton card.

Nicholas’ father could not comprehend the price tag the Mercedes driver‘s card had. He stated, “When I heard that amount, I almost fell backward.” Subsequently, he expressed his disbelief over a card from $50 being valued in the hundreds of thousands. He continued, “I never thought a little piece of cardboard could be worth that much.”

Later, the show notifies the two of an even higher offer, the Lewis Hamilton card. The father-son duo accepted this undisclosed amount that was said to be more than the initial offer. It was then revealed on Goldin’s auction site that the card was sold for a whopping $900,000. Nicholas joked with his father after this deal and said, “I’m your favorite son.”

Thus, this was a rather amusing event for F1 fans as a 16-year-old earns such a massive amount of money simply by a card. Perhaps Nicholas was simply really lucky as he got this special card. But one thing is clear the Quebec teen and his dad will always support Lewis Hamilton from now on as the British driver helped them get rich.
