“An inspiration,” Fans react as Lewis Hamilton goes ‘undercover’ to watch his brother race in the BTCC
Fans expressed their adoration for Lewis Hamilton, after he went 'undercover' at Donington to watch his brother, Nicolas, race in the BTCC.

Lewis Hamilton is considered one of the greatest racing drivers of all time. He’s certainly the most successful Formula 1 driver of all time, with 103 wins and seven world championships. Right alongside Michael Schumacher, he’s considered the ‘GOAT’ of the sport by many people. And racing seems to run in the family, as his brother, Nicolas, is also a racing driver.
As you may, or may not, know, Nicolas races with a specially-modified car due to cerebral palsy. He is currently competing in his fifth season in the British Touring Car Championship. Recently, at the second race of the first round of the series, (Nicolas) Hamilton scored his best-ever finish, with a P6 (P7 on track). And his brother was there to see him do that, but ‘as a normal spectator’. His clothing almost suggests that he was in disguise in order to blend into the crowd.
Speaking after the race, Lewis uploaded three Instagram stories. Two of them were photos, while the other was a video, which was captioned: “I haven’t been to Donington in a long time. I was so excited to watch and support my brother there today as a normal spectator, [it] felt really special. I’m so proud of you bro, 6th place today was such a special result and you truly deserve it. Keep pushing [Nicolas].”
Fans expressed adoration for Lewis Hamilton following his Instagram stories

After a user uploaded screenshots of Lewis Hamilton’s Instagram stories to Twitter, many expressed their adoration for the British superstar. Some also hypothesized that people that didn’t recognize him (at the moment, as he was ‘undercover’) may later kick themselves. Obviously, if people knew that he was going to be there and if they were in his vicinity, they would’ve gone after him in the hundreds.
There was special praise reserved for his eyelashes.
Watching his brother drive to his best ever-finish (in the BTCC) would’ve certainly been a joyous occasion for Lewis Hamilton. The fact that he was able to enjoy this, presumably without being ‘bothered’ by fans, just as a normal spectator would also have been refreshing. Now, of course, his focus will shift to the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Last race, he finished second, with Red Bull (and Max Verstappen) coming out on top once again. It has been a very long while since Hamilton last won a race; it has been more than 15 months in fact. He went the entirety of 2022 without winning a single race, which was a first for him. In 2023, it looks unlikely that he’ll win the championship, but he would like to make sure that 2022 ends up being the only winless year of his career.
