Canadian Billionaire Lawrence Stroll acquired a bankrupt Force India team in 2018 and converted them into a successful Aston Martin in 2021. They are now consistently fighting frontrunners. He now believes that his contributions to saving numerous jobs at the British car company and his investments in the Formula 1 team make him deserving of a knighthood.
Following his investments in a state-of-the-art factory and a wind tunnel to enhance the infrastructure of the F1 team at their Silverstone headquarters, speaking to Autocar, Lawrence Stroll believes that he deserves further recognition for his contributions, a knighthood.
He said, “I should be knighted for what I’ve done, I’ve saved thousands of jobs and built a new Formula 1 factory with hundreds of millions of investment.” Lawrence Stroll referred to his significant investment of £1.5 billion into Aston Martin as “a huge show of my belief in the company… One doesn’t put that money into a business they don’t believe in the future of.”
Aston Martin leapfrogged the midfield between 2022 and 2023, where they went from backmarkers to consistent podium challengers. The investments of Stroll have undoubtedly propelled them to the top, where they will hope to continue improving.

Lawrence Stroll’s son Lance Stroll is under scrutiny after his failures this season
During the initial eight races of his Aston Martin career, Fernando Alonso has achieved podium finishes in six of them, securing second place on multiple occasions. On the other hand, Lance Stroll has encountered a challenging start to the 2023 season. Following criticism of his performances in Miami and Monaco, Stroll regained his composure with an impressive performance, finishing sixth in Spain.
Notably, Lance Stroll outperformed Alonso in qualifying and the race for the first time this year, showcasing a notable improvement in his form. His home race in Canada was another struggle, as he only secured P9 compared to his teammate’s P2. Thus Stroll’s place has come under scrutiny at Aston Martin, where he cannot perform at the level of his brilliant car.
Thus, Lawrence Stroll may ponder putting a different driver in the AMR23 who can support Alonso at the top and rake in their fair share of points. Lance Stroll has accumulated 80 points less than Fernando Alonso in the first eight races of the 2023 season. Thus with him not pulling his weight, should the team desire to be successful, he must either up his game to match Alonso or risk being replaced.
