The performance of the AMR23 took a hit earlier this season following the introduction of updates, which unfortunately did not result in the expected improvements for the car. Aston Martin Formula 1’s performance director, Tom McCullough, has emphasized that enhancing efficiency will be their central focus for the upcoming AMR24 car.

After facing a challenging session at Monza, Aston Martin’s driver Fernando Alonso experienced one of his least competitive races of the season, ultimately securing the 9th position. Meanwhile, his teammate Lance Stroll secured 16th place. Monza emphasized the significant challenge of striking the right balance between downforce and straight-line speed with the current AMR23 car.

Tom McCullough made it a top priority to address the challenges put forth by Fernando Alonso to enhance their car’s efficiency for the 2024 season. McCullough also acknowledged that there will be any changes that will affect the AMR23’s performance in the upcoming races.

Fernando touched on the efficiency of the car,” said McCullough, as reported by Motorsport.com. “We worked on that with the base car and also the rear wing levels that we brought [to Monza]. It’s an area of improvement, and it is an area we need to improve more for next year; that’s clear.”

In the 2022 Formula 1 season, the ground effect rules were introduced to help reduce the performance gap between the front and back of the grid. Although this goal was partially met, it enabled Red Bull to make significant performance gains on the track.

In the 2022 seasons, the RB18, designed by Adrian Newey, won 17 out of 22 races, clinching the championship title last year. This year, the RB19 remains unbeaten, winning all 14 of this year’s grand prix, including six 1-2 finishes. Redbulls star driver Max Verstappen has recently crushed Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9th consecutive wins and is currently in first position in the driver’s championship standing.

However, Alonso acknowledged that all the teams are actively searching for a vulnerability in the RB18, hinting that there might be an issue with the regulations favoring Red Bull exclusively.“I think we also have a very tight grid, removing the two in front, which is what everyone is interested in.”

On the other hand, something has failed, because of the last 25 races, 24 have been won by a Red Bull, that was not in any of the plans.” Said Fernando alonso as reported by Cadena Ser’s El Larguero.
