Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich thought simulator data was wrong after first look at AMR23’s speed

Aston Martin took up Fernando Alonso at the start of the current F1 2013 season in the place of Sebastian Vettel, the four-time World Champion who surprisingly announced his retirement last year. The Silverstone outfit had gotten a seventh-place finish last year with only 55 points to their name. But now, Lawrence Stroll‘s team seems to have struck gold as they have amassed a whopping 102 points from the first five races only. This has led to the team establishing a firm stand in the second position on the points table, ahead of heavyweights like Mercedes and Ferrari.

But Aston Martin’s unparalleled improvement in results this year can hardly be contributed to Fernando Alonso alone. The Spaniard had driven for Alpine for the last couple of years and he had never gotten ranks in the top 3 as frequently as he does now. This has proven that Aston Martin Racing have developed their best-ever car this year–the AMR23. And their reserve driver Felipe Drugovich of F2 fame has confirmed this by revealing how he felt when he had first tried out the simulator for their 2023 Championship campaign.

Ahead of the racing season, the reserve racers of each team take to the simulators of their cars to get important data that helps the engineers improve their set-up. When Felipe Drugovich tried out the simulator for the AMR23, he was shocked. He recounted the story, saying, “I have been in the simulator since last September and have seen the improvements made to the car. It’s a funny story. We were seeing the improvements made for this year with my lap time and I said to myself: ‘It’s probably wrong.‘”

Fernando Alonso took the leap of faith towards Aston Martin purely based off of Lawrence Stroll’s aspirations for the team. The Spaniard was already 41 when he decided to take the risk of entering a new team in F1. This was unprecedented since most racers leave the pinnacle of motorsports by the time they reach their mid-30s. But Alonso has already shown that he still has what it takes to get to the top of the grid in the Grands Prix, and hopefully, he is not too far from achieving his 33rd win after a drought of 10 years.

In other news, Fernando Alonso recently admitted to the fact that he is aware of his age, and knows he will not be racing in F1 10 years from now. But he also talked about the life he is excited for once he is out of the pinnacle of motorsports. He said he wishes to start a family, and that has not yet been possible because of his way of life. And this, of course, has brought back the talks of his rumored romance with pop artist Taylor Swift, as reported by the celebrity gossip site Deuxmoi.
