Audi and Porsche set to enter Formula 1 after months of speculation: Report

After months of speculation, it’s been confirmed that Audi and Porsche look all set to make an entry into the world of Formula 1. The decision comes after a hectic round of negotiation between the FIA and Volkswagen. With F1 trying to expands it reach in terms of the races, it became imperative for the organization to increase the number of teams too. This was an opportunity for the top manufacturers around the world to enter the sport.
Audi and Porsche, two of Germany’s biggest manufacturers, under the Volkswagen had been in talks with Lando Norris’ McLaren ad Max Verstappen’s Red Bull before the confirmation of the move. The decision had to be stalled after FIA decided to impose certain restrictions to the entry of these new player.
The restrictions included that both Audi and Porsche had to cut down their cost by 50% on their development of a car and the engines were to be in consonance with the sustainable goals of Formula 1. This has casted doubts over the future of the German manufactures but it seems like everything has been sorted out and there has been a meeting of minds between the two parties.
Audi and Porsche look set to join McLaren and Red Bull after an uncertain period lately
Recently, a report by reuters confirmed that the deal has been signed and sealed which means the two heavyweights might be soon operating in Formula 1.
“Volkswagen’s premium brands Audi and Porsche have decided to join Formula One, Volkswagen Chief Executive Herbert Diess said.”
It was reported in march that, “Audi is ready to offer around 500 million euros ($556.30 million) for British luxury sports carmaker McLaren as a means to enter.”
“While Porsche intends to establish a long-term partnership with racing team Red Bull starting in several years’ time.”
“The decision comes as Volkswagen prepares for a possible listing of Porsche AG planned for the fourth quarter of this year,” as reported by Reuters.
This means exciting times lie ahead for the F1 fans. But the challenge that lies for the organization is to keep the tradition alive while they expand to more financially fruitful locations.
