Austrian GP 2022: How many DRS Zones are there in the Red Bull Ring?
Austrian GP
F1 is set to host the Austrian GP after an enthralling British GP, which saw Carlos Sainz win his first ever Grand Prix of his career. We saw a mini resurgence of Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton clocking some serious lap time during the course of the race. It was a bit of a blow for Max Verstappen who looked the likeliest to win the race but only could manage to finish P7 after an unfortunate incident in the first half of the race.
Ferrari would want to keep the pressure on, whereas Red Bull would want to shrug off the result in Britain and give their fans a reason to cheer and smile in their home Grand Prix. The team also goes into the weekend as favorites keeping in mind the layout of the circuit. It’s supposed to suit Red Bull more as compared to the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari.
The race commission has confirmed that there will ‘3‘ DRS detection zones around the circuit. The first one being after Turn 1. The detection zone will be around 160m before Turn 1 and shall be activated 102m after Turn 1. We have the second DRS activation zone around 100m after Turn 3. The last and final detection zone will be 120m before Turn 10 and the activation zone around 106m after Turn 10 on to the long straight.

Austrian GP: Red Bull set to have three DRS detection zone around the circuit
Max Verstappen seems very excited for the Austrian GP as he looks to bounce back from the disappointment of Silverstone. He said, “You know, up until this year I never understood why we were quick here because it never really suited our package because of the long straights basically.“
“Of course there was a bit of altitude involved and I think the Honda engine is pretty good at altitude. But yes, this year we have to wait and see.“
“We’ve been quick on the straights but in high-speed, Ferrari and Mercedes have been really competitive so we have to wait and see how quick we’re going to be. But I’m just very excited for the whole weekend.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Ferrari and Mercedes deal with Red Bull’s express pace on the straights. But, thankfully for Mercedes and Ferrari, this Red Bull ring also has a lot of high speed corners where they seem to hold the edge.
