Fernando Alonso was not happy with Carlos Sainz during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix sprint race. For the second consecutive race, the Aston Martin driver questioned the driving decisions of Sainz. The two-time world champion wants the FIA to investigate the incident. After a safety car restart at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix sprint, Alonso was quick to catch Alex Albon and Lewis Hamilton.
For a brief moment, it looked like Alonso was capable of overtaking Sainz. However, the Ferrari driver spotted his rival in the mirror and Alonso was forced to back out. In the end, Sainz finished fifth ahead of Alonso. The 41-year-old shared his thoughts on the incident after the race. It was only four weeks ago when Sainz collided with Alonso. The latter spun out of third place in the Australian GP. However, his position was reinstated.
Fernando Alonso told Sky Sports F1, “Yeah, I passed Alex [Albon] and then Lewis [Hamilton] into Turn 1, and Carlos as well. But Carlos put me into the wall at the entry of Turn 2. So I had to lift off. If I didn’t lift off, we would have both crashed. I hope the FIA will look at this now and maybe a top five is still possible.”

Fans react to Fernando Alonso’s statements on the Sainz incident
Alonso felt what Sainz did was against the rulebook. He stated that the rules are clear. “If you are side by side, you cannot go to that side of the car, ease and squeeze him to the wall until he lifts off. So we don’t need anything, we just need to police it properly.” Once Alonso made his feelings known, the fans were quick to react.
The fans took to social media and shared their thoughts on this subject. They compared Alonso to Max Verstappen. “No wonder Verstappen is butt buddies with him”, “That was racing man”, “That was still on the limit, the green car was still behind the red. Sainz did the right defense there”, “Spanish civil war” , “Got decision last time now he thinks it is going to happen every race,” etc. were some of the comments made by the fan. Take a look at others below,
The Aston Martin cars struggled to find pace all weekend. They had issues with the DRS activation. However, it worked during the sprint race. Alonso claims it is a damage limitation weekend for the team. He scored three podiums in the first three races of the season. But they are not hopeful of another podium finish in Baku. Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll will want to finish in points and make the best out of the race.
