In recent years, a compelling rivalry has unfurled between Max Verstappen and the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. Following their intense duel for the 2021 title, Verstappen has largely held the upper hand. Presently, he commands not only the track but also a substantial lead over Hamilton and the rest of the grid. However, just as their rivalry seemed to have subsided, the Mercedes F1 team may have restarted it.
Mercedes sparks intrigue with a cryptic move, sharing a video on their X (formerly Twitter) account featuring a cup brimming with vibrant orange paint. Speculation abounds that this could hint at a surprising orange livery for the Silver Arrows in the upcoming Dutch GP – a nod to the nation’s color. The twist deepens as this race is the home turf of Max Verstappen, once a fierce rival of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
In 2023, Red Bull’s dominance persists, with wins in every race. Max Verstappen is on track to match Sebastian Vettel’s nine consecutive victories record at Zandvoort. Previously, Mercedes reigned supreme for seven years (2014-2020), but their era lacked total season victory like Red Bull’s bid this year.

Mercedes special livery rumors draw humorous responses from fans

The video rapidly spread on social media, causing a lot of speculation. Is Mercedes hinting at something new with this video? Most people think so, and they’re pretty excited about it. Fans on X shared their opinion regarding the Silver Arrows’ coded video.
One user asked Mercedes to look into their W14 before announcing a special livery. “Can you just fix the car please?” Their tweet read. Another user suggested that the Brackley team is blending with their rival’s home country, “they took if you can’t beat them join them a bit too literally,” they Tweeted. At the same time, another user poked fun at the admin. “Merc admin playing with emotions.”
Another user had an interpretation of the picture, “Wait until you realize it’s just a paint shop commercial,” they Tweeted. A different user joked about Mercedes’ heavy-weight car. They Tweeted, “Stop it, the car is already too heavy.” One user accused Mercedes of copying McLaren’s new upgrades. “I don’t think this is the best way to copy McLaren’s upgrade path.”
Verstappen and Red Bull shine in F1 2023, their brilliance set to continue at Zandvoort. Unbeaten in 12 races this season, they’ve faced few speed challenges—Monaco’s Fernando Alonso being a notable exception. Notably, Verstappen clinched successive Dutch Grand Prix wins, the latest involving a post-Safety Car overtake on Lewis Hamilton in 2022.
