Carlos Sainz is disappointed with Ferrari: “I am not comfortable enough”

When the lights went out and the race started in the season opener in Bahrain this year for the 2022 Formula 1 Championship, Scuderia Ferrari, the oldest and most successful F1 team in history, came out guns blazing to secure the top two positions in the race. At the same time, Red Bull racers Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen retired from the Grand Prix citing engine troubles. The F1 pundits had all touted that it was Ferrari‘s time to win the Championship this season and Charles Leclerc was projected to be an early favorite for the WDC victory.
But now that eight races have already taken place, Carlos Sainz has had three retirements in total–and this speaks for the reliability problems with his F1-75 that need some serious investigation. The Spaniard had left McLaren at the end of the 2020 season to sign with Ferrari, and he had vowed to make a go at the Championship trophy with his new team. But as of now, the situation seems bleak for him because he has not been able to get a single race victory in this season and currently stands only fifth in the Championship standings.

Carlos Sainz says he needs to find more patience to settle into the new Ferrari car
Last week in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, Carlos Sainz had some hydraulic issues with his car, and he had to retire from the race completely. This came as a huge disappointment to the racer as he wanted to go for a Grand Prix victory after qualifying for the race in the fourth place behind the reigning Champion Max Verstappen.
But during the course of the race in Azerbaijan, Carlos Sainz became the first racer to withdraw his car from the run due to some hydraulic issues that could not be fixed. This put a whopping 33-point-gap between him and his teammate Charles Leclerc who is currently third in the World Championship after the two Red Bull drivers. While speaking of his three retirements in eight races this year, Carlos Sainz said, “I saw that I was not comfortable enough with the car to aim for poles and wins. Indeed, perhaps the drive to want to win and take pole made me make a few mistakes too many.”
He continued, “My strength has always been perseverance and knowing how to wait and usually the end of the year has always been very positive. It is therefore time to be more patient and wait until I feel the feeling with the car improve, to go on the attack.”
