Charles Leclerc has been having a tough season with Ferrari so far. Saturday’s Dutch GP qualifying session took things up a notch as the Monegasque failed to finish the session. Charles is known for his quali performances. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be during the Dutch GP race weekend. The last time the Ferrari driver had scored a pole position was back in Azerbaijan. Max Verstappen eventually ended up scoring pole position.

During Q3 on Saturday, Charles Leclerc was pushing hard as the McLaren’s of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were showing good pace. However, a snap through turn 9 went on to send Leclerc offline and understeer played its part leading to the Monegasque crashing into the barriers. With Logan Sargeant being the driver who crashed before him in the segment, Charles will be starting ninth for Sunday’s race.

“In Formula 1, it’s all about anticipating and knowing what balance you’re going to get once you get into the corner.“But, at the moment, I’m getting into the corner and I have zero idea whether I’m going to have huge understeer, huge oversteer,” he said. “That makes it very, very difficult for us. So, it’s been a very difficult weekend until now,” he continued.

Ferrari has done some overnight setup changes to prepare Charles Leclerc’s car for qualifying. However, they did not seem to work at all at Zandvoort. This left Leclerc at a disadvantage. While he will start today’s race in ninth, teammate Carlos Sainz will start in 6th. While Max Verstappen has scored his 8th pole position in 13 races so far, he is the fan favorite to win today.

Sergio Perez, on the other hand, has had no  answer for Max Verstappen’s pace around Zandvoort. However, McLaren’s of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have proven to be a threat going into race-day. It will be interesting to see if Max is able to equal Sebastian Vettel’s record of winning 9 races consecutively. A lot of Dutch fans are hoping to see a Verstappen masterclass.
