Christian Horner and Red Bull need to be praised for the development of the RB-18 due to which neither Max Verstappen nor Sergio Perez have had to deal with the ‘porpoising’ issues. Both the Red Bulls have been relatively more stable allowing them get that extra tenth or two on the straights. This is something which has been a headache for most teams and especially Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were losing almost a second in Saudi Arabia to the Red Bulls on the straights due to all the bouncing. The German manufacturer have not been anywhere close to the high standards they have set in the past. But the issues around bouncing got a whole lot serious after Lewis Hamilton was reported to having picked up back pain in Baku due to the porpoising which had put a question mark on his fitness ahead of the Canadian GP.

The seven time world champion was seen gingerly heading back to the paddock after he battled through that rough race. This raised a question as to whether the FIA should intervene and bring in the necessary changes? The answer was yes, as FIA decided to issue a technical directive allowing secondary floor stays to all the teams. This meant Mercedes could experiment in the three free practice sessions.

This is something that didn’t go down well with Christian Horner who felt his team was hard done by. He said, “What was particularly disappointing was the second stay because that has to be discussed in a technical forum.”

“And that is overtly biased to sorting one team’s problems out, which were the only team that turned up here with it even in advance of the TD.

That surely is down to the team, that’s within their control to deal with that. It’s not affecting others. I know they’ve said that other drivers have been complaining, our drivers have never complained ever about porpoising,” as reported by the-race.

Christian Horner definitely has a point because all the teams are working under a budget cap and no team should be favored in the middle of the championship just because they don’t want to cut down on their speed to sort out their issues.
