The qualifying session of the 2023 Japanese GP concluded just a while ago, and Max Verstappen has put his RB19 in pole position. The session was closely contested between Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri, but the former could hold his nerve when it mattered. The Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner, is immensely pleased with his driver’s efforts.
Verstappen had everybody’s number during yesterday’s practice sessions and was tipped as the favorite to secure the pole during the quali run. With his recent outing, he has not disappointed all his supporters and, in the end, was able to secure pole position by a healthy margin of half a second over Oscar Piastri.
Christian Horner could not have asked for anything more from his star driver, and while applauding him at the end of the quali session, he told the media, “I think what we witnessed today was really special. It is something to put on the magic board. Just look at turn 5, that first sector was incredible.”
Christian Horner: I think what we witnessed today was really special. It is something to put on the magic board. Just look at turn 5, that first sector was incredible. GP was winding him up about a 28 in the car, but I said, we'd like to see all four wheels on the car.

“GP was winding him up about a 28 in the car, but I said, we’d like to see all four wheels on the car. I don’t think we still understand Singapore, but this car has always been strong on this kind of circuit. The first sector is all about man and machine muscling the car.” Looking at the comments of the Brit, it is quite clear that he was mesmerized by Verstappen’s final Q3 run.

Max Verstappen will eye a sensational outing during the Japanese GP
While Christian Horner is immensely pleased with the way Max Verstappen was able to put Red Bulls RB19 through the wringer during the quali run at the Suzuka International Racing Course, the latter would eye an even better outing during tomorrow’s all-important 2023 Japanese Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old has got the lights of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri starting right behind him, and the duo will try their best to overtake him going into Turn 1 on the first lap of the race. From Verstappen’s point of view, it will all be about getting on the throttle at the earliest to stop any overtaking maneuver.
The two MCL60s have looked immensely competitive at the Suzuka International Racing Course and will pose a tough challenge to Max Verstappen. Considering this, the upcoming race could be an exciting affair between the top three starters. Moreover, Ferrari could also come into play if certain things go their way during the race.
