Formula 1 has evolved leaps and bounds in the last few decades, and while Max Verstappen is currently the top dog, there was a time in the 2000s when the former 2-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, was the man to beat in the sport. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner sees the two drivers as ‘Alpha males’ and feels that they just won’t work in case they are on the same team.
Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen are undoubtedly some of the best drivers to have ever stepped foot into the exciting world of the pinnacle of motor racing. While the former is in the twilight stage of his long F1 career, Verstappen is still young and has several years left. Alonso, despite being 42 years old, has once again impressed one and all with his abilities this year, and it has led to rumors of Verstappen and the Spaniard being F1 teammates.
Christian Horner was made aware of this potential prospect recently, and while sharing his thoughts on it, he said, as reported by Soymotor, “If you put two ‘alpha males’ as extreme as them on the same team, it will be destroyed. Fernando Alonso, like Lewis Hamilton, is a leading driver, so it would not work alongside Verstappen.”
Looking at the comments of the 49-year-old, it is quite clear that he has downplayed the prospect. He ardently believes that just like Hamilton, Alonso, and Verstappen are also alpha males, and thus, it just won’t bode well for the team if they are operating on the same team. In his opinion, there can only be one alpha male on a particular F1 team.

Max Verstappen is the present and the future of F1
While Christian Horner has completely dismissed the prospect of seeing Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso on the same team, the latter has only a few years left in him. The Dutchman, on the other hand, is currently only 26 years old and could rule over the pinnacle of motor racing for many years to come. Such has been his dominance in the recent years.
Verstappen wrapped up his third consecutive F1 world championship during this month’s Qatar GP and now has his eyes set on winning all the remaining five races of the ongoing season. Moreover, considering the supreme form he has shown this year behind the wheel of the RB19, only a fool would bet against him winning the remaining 2023 events.
Looking back at a great weekend and an incredible season so far ? Very proud and grateful to be part of this. We will enjoy this moment, recharge the batteries and be ready for Austin #KeepPushing pic.twitter.com/7cDiqzfeF3

F1 as a sport has amassed a lot of attention in recent times, and some of the credit for it goes to the way Verstappen has sparkled his magic around the various tracks all over the globe.
