Christian Horner has been working with Red Bull Racing as their team principal ever since the F1 team was formed . During that time period, he has been involved in multiple engine deals taking that Red Bull has done. Whether it is Renault, Ferrari, Honda and now Ford X RBPT. When it comes to Honda, the team signed the Japanese manufacturer after their relationship fell apart with Renault.

The engine supply deal was an instant success as Max Verstappen won the 2019 Austrian GP with Honda power. However, this was just the start as the Dutchman along with Sergio Perez has helped Honda win big. Max has gotten two F1 drivers world championships under his belt while the team has earned the constructors championship last year with the help of Checo.

In an interview, here is what he had to say. “For the prospects of Red Bull, we’ve outgrown being a customer. For us to have the power unit on-site, integrated fully with the chassis and the synergies that creates with engine and chassis engineers next to each other, for the long-term, the advantages are significant,” he said. “We wouldn’t have made that jump had it not been for Honda’s withdrawal,” he continued.

Christian Horner was clear around that fact that Red Bull Powertrains won’t have been introduced if Honda was still willing to stay. However this new decision won’t be reversed in any way possible as there has alerted been a lot of money put into Red Bull’s own engine development programme in partnership with Ford. It will be interesting to see how the team performs this weekend and in the future.
