Nelson Piquet, Brazilian former Formula 1 driver, referred to Lewis Hamilton as a “little ni**er” after the Briton and reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen were engaged in an incident at the Silverstone Grand Prix in 2021. Piquet uttered the racial slur in November of last season, but it wasn’t until recently that it was discovered.
“The little black guy [Lewis Hamilton] put the car in and left because there was no way to pass two cars on that corner. He made a joke. Lucky for him, only the other one [Verstappen] got fucked up,” said the three-time Formula One World Champion.
Formula One strongly condemns Nelson Piquet for his racist remarks
The racial slur used by Piquet, which has recently seen the light of the day, has quite evidently not been received well by the Formula One world, with people coming out in support for 7-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who has been a victim of Piquet’s remarks.
British Formula One digital presenter and reporter Will Buxton has mentioned, “Condemnation needs to be swift and absolute. There is no reason or excuse. It’s not a language thing. There is only one translation and understanding of that word. I’ve seen the clip and won’t repost it. Abhorrent,” in reference to Piquet’s racially instigated slurs.

The episode, which was one of several between the two drivers as they competed for the world championship last year and was controversially determined at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix finale, marks its first anniversary this weekend during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
