Danica Patrick, a former IndyCar and NASCAR racer, envisions an equal Formula 1 playing field: all cars identical. Within this context, the consistently reliable Lewis Hamilton would battle it out with the formidable duo of Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen. As Formula 1 has evolved, the dominance of the racing machine over driver speed has become the decisive factor in determining results.
Danica Patrick made some bold predictions regarding the current F1 grid. The IndyCar race winner was asked who would have won if Hamilton, Alonso, and Verstappen had the same car. She pointed out that all the drivers will give a formidable fight, but the two times world champions will race more aggressively than the seven times champion.
“You can’t exclude Max, I think when you apply all the styles, that will be a pretty great duo right there, between Max and Alonso, because they’re both pretty aggressive too, so that would be fun to watch,” Patrick said in Sky Sports F1 Podcast..
She noted that in races, especially considering their length, Lewis Hamilton’s remarkable consistency and limited mistakes would probably help him take the lead. This would happen while Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen are locked in their fierce competition on the track.
“Especially when you take into a race consideration, the length of it, he’s just so consistent, he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. And so he’d be snatching the lead when those two are going at it,” Patrick added.

Danica Patrick stands by Max Verstappen’s Grand Prix streak

Max Verstappen’s streak boasts eight straight Grand Prix victories, his season tally at 10 out of 12 races. Hypothetically equalizing Formula 1 cars wouldn’t deter Danica Patrick’s belief in Verstappen’s dominance. Drawing from IndyCar, she sees Alonso’s experience shaping this F1 alternate reality while seven-time champ Hamilton remains poised to capitalize on opportunities.
Patrick noted that it proved tough for her not to name Fernando Alonso her favorite driver, emphasizing his impressive resurgence at 41. She also anticipated an exciting pairing between Max Verstappen and Alonso due to their shared aggressive style. Patrick expressed curiosity about Lewis Hamilton’s placement, considering his extensive championship success could benefit him.
“I mean, he’s 41, he’s like re-emerged as so competitive and just doing that over and over again, like his second coming, I think it’s just so impressive. You can’t exclude Max, I think when you apply all the styles that will be a pretty great duo. I’d be really curious to see where Lewis fell in that too,” she continued.
Formula 1 annually gathers the utmost driving talents on the grid. Yet, the ongoing debate about the supreme driver endures due to inherent formulaic constraints. Only with uniform cars for all 20 drivers could this be settled. Presently, the spotlight gravitates towards the triumvirate: Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Max Verstappen.
