Daniel Ricciardo is a prominent figure in the world of Formula 1 racing. After parting ways with McLaren, the Aussie joined Red Bull again where he was their third driver and also taking part in PR duties. However, everything changed in the last few weeks. Dr Helmut Marko and Red Bull had put in their trust and faith in Dutchman Nyck De Vries and signed him to race for AlphaTauri for the 2023 season.
With a few races done and dusted in the 2023 calendar, Nyck De Vries’s performance was not at all satisfactory and up to the standards of Red Bull seemingly. Due to this, the Dutch driver was sacked by AlphaTauri before the Hungarian GP race weekend. To replace Nyck, Red Bull called upon Daniel Ricciardo to take his seat at AlphaTauri where he was partnered up with Yuki Tsunoda.
With the timing of his comeback not being ideal, Daniel Ricciardo is glad that it happened. Here is what he had to say in an interview regarding the same. “When I got the call up, in my head I was like, ‘Oh, okay, I thought we’d probably just wait for the summer break,” said the Australian. “But I’m actually really glad I got these two before the break, because it gives me something to certainly think about, build on, throw some questions back to the team,” he continued.
Daniel Ricciardo’s timings at the Pirelli test gave Red Bull enough proof to put him back in F1
A few weeks back, Daniel was supposed to drive the RB-19 during a Pirelli tyre test at Silverstone after the GP. The Aussie went on to do the same and put in some impressive lap times. His fastest was good enough to put him on the front row alongside Max Verstappen for the British GP. Due to this, the Red Bull clan realised that the Honey Badger has still gotten what it takes to help AlphaTauri move forward.
In his first race back in the sport, Daniel Ricciardo beat Yuki Tsunoda in every aspect. While he was not able to repeat the same feat in Spa, it is still commendable. Many in the paddock think that Daniel Riccardo has taken the lead driver role away from Yuki Tsunoda. It will be interesting to see how much progress Ricciardo has made when F1 races again after the summer break at the Dutch GP in the Netherlands.
