Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton locked horns a lot back when they were teammates at McLaren in 2007.

The two current Formula 1 veterans, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were teammates at McLaren back in 2007. Although the two drivers now share a deep sense of respect for each other, this wasn’t the case back when they were teammates. Multiple incidents between the drivers cut short Alonso’s partnership with Hamilton.

However, since then both the drivers have matured a lot and hence better relations with each other. Now amidst this, former Red Bull driver David Coulthard placed both the driver as a part of his ‘fantasy team’. Additionally, Coulthard labeled Lewis Hamilton as a ‘winning machine’ and hence this was the reason to place the Briton in the team.

I would put Lewis Hamilton there without a doubt. As someone who is, it is simply a winning machine when things are, you know, when the vehicle is below it.

Coulthard told on Formula for Success Podcast (H&T: soymotor.com).

Subsequently, Coulthard mentioned that he would like to place Fernando Alonso as the teammate to Hamilton. The Briton recalled the great rivalry between the two drivers and mentioned how they did not get along very well as teammates. However, after almost 16 years of their one-year stint at McLaren, seeing the two drivers fight it out now as teammates was exciting even for the 52-year-old.

This is Fantasy Formula 1. I'd put Fernando by his side just to see when we ask questions about big rivalries. They didn't get along very well when they were teammates the first time at McLaren. But what would it be like now, those who, is one like 38, 39 in the case of Lewis and the other, 42?

David Coulthard mentioned other pairings for his fantasy team

Subsequently, the interviewer questioned DC about a team that could not pair up the seven-time world champion with the Asturian. To this, Coulthard insisted that he would then look for a young talent within the sport that would complement well with the veteran to the sport. Hence, the former driver mentioned other young drivers that could potentially be placed in his ‘fantasy team’.

Coulthard asserted that the young drivers within the sport, such as Lando Norris, and George Russell would fare well against the much-experienced drivers within the sport. Additionally, these young drivers would also get great learnings from the veteran of the sport, something which would be helpful in their later stage of career in Formula 1.

Regardless of Coulthard’s wishes to see the veteran pairing up, this dream is far-fetched and not possible for now as Hamilton has been locked with Mercedes for at least till 2025. Additionally, many fans question the retirement of the 42-year-old within the sport as Alonso has been racing in F1 for almost 24 years.
