David Tremayne: ‘Why has Max Verstappen immensely improved on his 2021 version?’
Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen has been the man to beat this season and after 13 rounds, he is way ahead of the lights of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez.
He has been a cut above the rest and F1 journalist David Tremayne has given his inion why Max Verstappen has been so immensely prolific this season.
Back in the days when Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were going at each other’s throats, there we many occasions where the level of the tussle between the drivers was off the charts.
They had one of the fiercest rivalries in their era and the same kind of fight was evident last season when Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were trying their absolute best to win the 2021 World Championship.
In 2021, the rivalry between the two got way beyond the boiling point and they had quite a few dangerous incidents throughout the season, no one can forget Silverstone when Max went into the barriers or Monza where Verstappen’s car ended up on top of Hamilton’s challenger.
However, after getting a maiden title under his belt, the Dutchman has looked pretty relaxed this season and he no longer goes into tight battles with the seek and destroy mentality.
He has become more calculated in his ways this season and it is very much visible in the way he now approaches races and tries to keep his head in the game no matter how tough the situation might get.
A recent example of this was seen in Hungary where even after starting from P10, he was able to keep his cool and charge his RB18 to the front of the grid.
Adrian Newey has done a super job in providing Max Verstappen a lethal car this season
Adrian Newey the Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull has been with the team for a long time and all his hard work and determination have helped Max Verstappen in achieving his goals in the sport.
If we talk about this season, Max has got a ridiculously lethal car under him that has helped him in getting to 258 points after 13 rounds and all the brain power of Adrian Newey and Co. have been the backbone behind the Dutchman’s success.
Moreover, Max is considered one of the best drivers to ever step foot in F1 and during the 2022 season, he has left no stone unturned in his pursuit to get the best out of the RB18.
Max has managed to push the RB18 to the absolute limit and is bearing the fruits of that this season. His battle with Charles Leclerc has been respectful and not like the one he had with Lewis Hamilton.
The duo has operated within their limits and most of it has been down to the fact that Verstappen has got a title in his locker. Max at the moment is 80 points ahead in the Championship and is sitting pretty at the top with no one in close distance of him.
The calm persona that Verstappen has shown this year has been the key highlight of his 2022 campaign and it is one of the main reasons why he has won 8 of the first 13 races of the season.
Max has matured immensely after last year’s campaign and this is going to bode well for him and Red Bull in the years to come knowing the 24-year-old has signed a mega contract at the Milton-Keynes based that is going to keep him there till 2028.
