Fellow Dutchman Nyck De Vries racked up a lot of commotion last year when he broke the record for working with the most amount of F1 teams in a single season. His F1 journey started with Mercedes and went onto all the Mercedes powered cars as he competed in practice sessions for the teams. Having subbed in for Alex Albon during his appendix surgery, Nyck showed everyone what he was capable of.

Nyck De Vries got a taste of F1 action with  Mercedes, Alpine, Williams and Aston Martin in a single season before AlphaTauri decided to finally give him his dream shot. The Dutchman had won the F2 championship in 2019 but still failed to secure a seat. He even moved onto Formula E where he raced with Mercedes and became world champion. This moment was one for the books.

The driver had a difficult time living with the hopes of joining F1 someday wherein it just didn’t seem possible. However what solidified his chances was his debut F1 race in Monza where he subbed for Alex Albon who was hospitalised. The Dutchman brought the car home in P9 giving some valuable points to the team. This is where Dr Helmut Marko and AlphaTauri expressed their interest in the 27 year old.

During an interview with DAY 1, here is what the Dutchman had to say. “It wasn’t that I had a lot of frustration and that’s also been the reason why I was always able to do it all with a lot of pleasure and motivation, because I was very happy with what I did have,” he said. “You are so close and so far away,” he continued.

Nyck De Vries also admitted that there were times when he was about to lose hope. However, the Dutchman never gave up and followed his dreams to finally achieve a major goal. “Deep down, I always kept a certain faith, despite being rejected four times in the last year,” he said.

With Nyck De Vries partnering Yuki Tsunoda for 2023, things will get spicy as two Dutch drivers will be present on the grid for the upcoming F1 season. Verstappen and De Vries already have a good friendship which will transform into a partnership as the Formula E champion becomes a part of the Red Bull family. It’s fair to say that this season will be even spicier than the last one.
