It is an undoubted fact that Dietrich Mateschitz, or “Didi”, as he is popularly called, was the root of the entire Red Bull Racing team. Upon the news of his death, it felt like the Austrian team was going to be entirely uprooted, but the strong network of people whom Mateschitz have left with the responsibility to carry the team, came through and made sure that nothing goes awry in the team processes. Former Formula 1 racer Gerhard Berger is one of Didi’s closest friends and thus, Berger had a close connection with Red Bull as well.

When news came that Dietrich Mateschitz, the revered Austrian entrepreneur and co-founder of the Red Bull company had passed away, it had hit Gerhard Berger quite hard. The business mogul died at the age of 78, and it was the end of a respected and loved friendship between Berger and Didi. This made many people wonder if Gerhard Berger would be invested in the various processes of the Red Bull Racing team anymore since Mateschitz had passed away. But according to the former F1 driver, he is still very much attached to Red Bull as of now.

Red Bull had entered Formula 1 in 2005, and Dietrich Mateschitz was involved quite closely in the team’s performance as he took an interest in racing. Now that Didi is no more, Gerhard Berger admitted to the fact that he has had a hard time adjusting to not receiving frequent calls from Mateschitz in the last few months. But Berger’s connection with Didi’s family is quite strong, so he is still very much a part of Red Bull.

Gerhard Berger and Dietrich Mateschitz go a long way back. Speaking on the relationship that the two of them shared, the former F1 racer said, “He has long been appreciated everywhere as an entrepreneur, social person and sports promoter. For me, there is no longer a friend with whom I had a trusting relationship for 40 years. I could always count on him, just as he could count on me.

When questioned about his existing link to Red Bull now that Dietrich Mateschitz has passed away, Gerhard Berger said, “First of all, I have the connection with the family, with Mark, Marion and Anita. That is the most important thing for me. I also have contact with the company. I know the key players. We are still logistics partners and I assume this cooperation will continue for a long time.

In other news, Gerhard Berger’s daughter Heide Berger is almost confirmed to be dating Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian said in an interview with Fitzy & Wippa that he is in a serious relationship and it has helped him “eliminate stress” from his life. Heidi has made several appearances in Daniel’s Instagram posts and was last spotted in one of his pictures from May’22 when the racer was in Miami for the first ever Miami Grand Prix.
