Max Verstappen, the reigning F1 world champion, has been operating on a whole new level for quite some time. He destroyed all his competitors last year as he went on to amass a brilliant 19 wins on the way to the world title.
While former world champions like Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are still trying to win the title again, former F1 team owner, Eddie Jordan, does not believe that they can do it. He has admitted that he has lost faith in them.
While shedding light on the same, Jordan said, as reported by F1 Insider:
I simply no longer trust Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, well-deserved champions, to be able to keep up with Verstappen because of their advanced age.
Looking at the strong reaction of the Irish, it seems that he ardently feels, that Hamilton and Alonso no longer can fight for the F1 world championship. He sees their advanced age as the main reason behind his assessment. The duo is one of the biggest names in the world of motorsports.
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso do not have many years left in F1
While Eddie Jordan has given a damning verdict on Hamilton and Alonso’s world title chances, they do not have several years left in the sport. The former turned 39 quite recently, whereas, Alonso, on the other hand, is approaching 43.
During the 2023 F1 season, the Brit managed a third-place finish in the driver’s standings with 234 points and Alonso, to his credit, was not too far behind as he ended up in fourth with 206. Both did a terrific job for their respective teams.
The two veterans of the sport have not lost any of their blistering speed, it is just that their respective teams have not been able to provide them with potent machinery. However, it could all change during the upcoming 2024 F1 season.
