Emerson Fittipaldi believes ‘Max Verstappen is starting to get worried’ as Sergio Perez inches closer to World Championship
Emerson Fittipaldi is afraid that Max Verstappen will have some concerns now that his own teammate Sergio Perez is rising up as a threat to his Championship hattrick dreams.

The second edition of the Miami Grand Prix is right around the corner. Thus, the Miami International Autodrome has come alive with several celebrities having already visited the paddock even though the race weekend has not come yet. While the Miami GP will mark another step towards achieving the FIA’s ‘American Dream’, the race in Florida is quite crucial for deciding which route the Championship battle will go, too. Going into the Miami Grand Prix, only 6 points separate Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez of Red Bull. And should Perez continue his winning streak from Baku, he will take over Max and get to the top spot of the Drivers’ Championship Standings for the first time in his career.
Since 2021, it is the first time that Max Verstappen has been truly challenged for the World Championship. Last year, the Dutchman was unopposed in his quest for the title, and he had won even before the season had ended. But now, there is enough evidence for former F1 Champion Emerson Fittipaldi to believe that Max Verstappen should be worried about his situation.
Previously, the threat to Max’s Championship lead had come from his rivals like Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, both of whom are in different teams. With Sergio Perez coming up as a strong contender for the 2023 World Championship, it is the first time that Max will be facing a threat from his own squad–Red Bull. And their Team Principal Christian Horner has already stated they will not hold back their drivers from challenging each other, provided the fight is fair and respectful. This has led to Fittipaldi claiming that soon a time might come when Sergio will reign on top of Max Verstappen, and the Dutchman should be concerned about this.
Emerson Fittipaldi favors Sergio Perez to win over Max Verstappen in Miami and Monaco

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix proved to be a tumultuous affair, where the cars were almost being driven into the walls of the street circuit at every corner. But in the middle of all the confusion, Sergio Perez attained victory by displaying a brilliant performance. Praising Checo’s performance and explaining why Perez might be a reason for Max Verstappen to be worried, Emerson Fittipaldi said, “I’m sure Max is starting to get worried. It showed in Baku, to me, the last 20 laps, that Checo was really driving it to the limit as well as Max. And Max could not reduce the gap.”
In addition to showering praise on Sergio Perez for his resounding victory in Baku, Fittipaldi also favoured the Mexican to win in Miami and Monaco. He said, “We’re in Miami and soon we’ll be in Monaco – two tracks that Checo could be very fast. There will be a lot of competition between Max and Checo in Miami. Checo has a good chance to win.”
If Emerson Fittipaldi’s words turn out to be true, then the Miami Grand Prix will change the course that this year’s Championship is currently following. Thus, all eyes will be on the race in Florida for this weekend as fans will be eager to see which one of the Red Bull talents manages to get the last laugh as they surpass the other and drive to the finish line.
