The Red Bull Formula 1 team has mastered the art of pit stops. A pitstop can make or break the race for any driver, a couple of seconds lost or gained in the pits can decide in gaining or losing a position, thus to stay on the top of the field, any F1 team must be the best in the pitlanes. It is no wonder that Red Bull’s dominant 2022 season also witnessed the team being the fastest in the pits and winning the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award for the fifth year in a row.
In every race, it’s the Milton Keynes team that is changing the tires in just over 2 seconds, something which allows the team to make close calls during the pit windows, as it knows it can take a risk. The team won its first Fastest Pit Stop award in 2018 and has not looked back ever since. bagging the award every season and even clocking in the fastest pitstop in the sport’s history with a time of 1.82 seconds with Max Verstappen at Interlagos in 2019.
In 2022, with the introduction of new tires, the teams were expected to have slower pitstops but the whole grid has almost reached to the 2021 timings. This year the Austrian team has failed to get the fastest individual pitstop, which was done by McLaren with a time of 1.98 seconds with Daniel Ricciardo in Mexico. But throughout the season, Red Bull has been the fastest in the pitlane for 10 races and 526 points with one round remaining, McLaren trails in second place with 5 races and 384 points.
