The Red Bull F1 team wins the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award in 2022

The Red Bull Formula 1 team has mastered the art of pit stops. A pitstop can make or break the race for any driver, a couple of seconds lost or gained in the pits can decide in gaining or losing a position, thus to stay on the top of the field, any F1 team must be the best in the pitlanes. It is no wonder that Red Bull’s dominant 2022 season also witnessed the team being the fastest in the pits and winning the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award for the fifth year in a row.

In every race, it’s the Milton Keynes team that is changing the tires in just over 2 seconds, something which allows the team to make close calls during the pit windows, as it knows it can take a risk. The team won its first Fastest Pit Stop award in 2018 and has not looked back ever since. bagging the award every season and even clocking in the fastest pitstop in the sport’s history with a time of 1.82 seconds with Max Verstappen at Interlagos in 2019.

In 2022, with the introduction of new tires, the teams were expected to have slower pitstops but the whole grid has almost reached to the 2021 timings. This year the Austrian team has failed to get the fastest individual pitstop, which was done by McLaren with a time of 1.98 seconds with Daniel Ricciardo in Mexico. But throughout the season, Red Bull has been the fastest in the pitlane for 10 races and 526 points with one round remaining, McLaren trails in second place with 5 races and 384 points.

F1 fans shower praise on Red Bull’s pit crew for being the fastest since 2018

The pit crew has played a major part in the Austrian team’s success over the years

Fans on Twitter were delighted on hearing the news and went on to congratulate the team’s pit crew for their outstanding performances at every single race for so many years. One user said, “Certainly are the best team in the pits congratulations, see I can give credit where credit is due,” while another fan replied, “Congratulations to the best pitstop crew in the world! Nobody can beat you guys!”

One fan appreciated the team’s efforts and tweeted, “Gives you wiiings (and super speedy wheel guns too apparently),” a pun on the energy drink company’s slogan “Red Bull gives you wings.” While another user said, “We just can’t stop winning at the moment can we,” a reference to the team’s unstoppable season in the sport with Max Verstappen winning a record 14 races during the year.

Pitstops are crucial in Formula 1 and Red Bull’s achievements paint the picture. It has helped the team on several occasions turning opportunities into gains and making rivals think twice about their tyre strategy. If you want to succeed at the pinnacle of motorsport, you must do pitstops right. The Williams F1 team used to be the quickest before 2018 but ever since it dropped its sharpness in the pitlane, the team declined in the running order as well, a true indication of how it all matters.
