“Max took that personally” – F1 fans react to Mattia Binotto’s earlier comment of Ferrari winning the last 10 races of the season

Mattia Binotto had talked about Ferrari having a chance to win the last 10 races of the F1 season.

The 2022 Formula 1 season had high expectations. The new rules and the budget cap provided the opportunity for a more competitive playing field. This seemed true, as, during the early stages of the season, Ferrari matched Red Bull, and fans looked forward to what could have been an interesting title fight between Charles Leclerc and defending champion, Max Verstappen. Alas, this was not meant to be, with Verstappen winning the F1 championship with ease at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Scuderia Ferrari looked to have done their homework over the winter, with the team’s F1-75 being a delight at pre-season testing. After the first three rounds of the season, the Scuderia had bagged 2 wins compared to Red Bull’s one. This battle however slowly died down as the Italian team struggled to keep up with their Austrian rivals, hindered by reliability issues, strategic errors and driver mistakes by both Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Scuderia Ferrari’s last F1 victory was the Austrian Grand Prix earlier this year

Team Principal Mattia Binotto has proven himself to be different from Ferrari bosses in the past as the Italian kept faith in the team throughout the season, refusing to blame specific individuals for the team’s dip in results, rather the 53-year-old took the fall himself on virtually every occasion. As the current season comes to an end, Binotto and his team will aim to understand and solve the team’s errors of 2022, while also making sure it stays on par with Red Bull.

“No reason Ferrari can’t win all 10 remaining races,” Mattia Binotto’s words did not age well

Charles Leclerc was the championship favorite at the start of the year, but he could not keep up the fight

Post the French Grand Prix, Mattia put aside the claims of Ferrari having lost the title fight and said, “No reason Ferrari can’t win all 10 remaining races.” The team principal was optimistic about the team’s prospects despite trailing behind Red Bull by a significant margin. However, as we can tell, this did not happen, as Ferrari failed to put up a fight in the latter half of the season, with Red Bull winning all 8 F1 races since.

This statistic was posted on Twitter and fans found it hilarious. Users mentioned how it was Max Verstappen who proved the Italian wrong, with one user replying, “Max took that personally” and another fan said, “Max should change the name to Reason.” Some fans also talked about Ferrari being Leclerc’s rival more so than the Dutch champion, one user commented, “Charles rivals: 1. Max 2. Ferrari strategies 3. Ferrari 4. Hards 5. Ferrari.”

Twitter also mocked the Ferrari team boss, with one user tweeting, “No reason Ferrari can’t win all races next season” while another called the statement, “The best joke of the year.” Fans also pointed out that even without Red Bull, the Prancing Horse would have struggled to achieve Binotto’s objective. As such it is clear to the fans and experts alike, that as long as Ferrari does not work on identifying and solving its problems off-track, the team cannot hope to end its championship drought on it.
