“He wants the green bull updates to come out early” – F1 fans react to Fernando Alonso being spotted with Helmut Marko and Christian Horner at Interlagos

Fernando Alonso was spotted having a chat with Christian Horner and Helmut Marko during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend

Fernando Alonso is the most experienced driver in Formula 1. The Spaniard has 353 race starts to his name, the highest in the history of the sport. The 41-year-old has proven age to be just a number, after delivering solid drives since his return to F1 with Alpine last year. Alonso believes himself to have learned from his time racing, and that he is a faster and more skilled driver than he was 15 years ago. Thus the two-time world champion is still on a charge to bring home his third world championship.

Alonso’s image in the sport has always been of a demanding driver, someone who needs to have an environment to his liking and will not shy away from looking elsewhere if he doesn’t get what he wants. This could be seen as clearly in Nando’s time at McLaren, where the management provided him with the opportunity to race in IndyCar as a way to keep him happy after some disappointing runs for the Woking team – with the Spaniard eventually switching full-time to endurance racing for Toyota.

Fernando came back in Formula 1 with Alpine in 2021, however after Sebastian Vettel’s retirement announcement, the 41-year-old swiftly signed a deal with the Silverstone-based team as he looked to have a stable long-term future in the sport, something which the French team had failed to ensure him about. Despite such drama, Alonso has still been putting his level best at every race, with his teammate Esteban Ocon even calling the Spaniard an “animal” on track.

F1 fans speculate about Fernando Alonso’s conversation with Red Bull

Fernando Alonso has appreciated Max Verstappen’s talent and achievements recently

On Friday, before Qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Alonso was spotted at Red Bull hospitality alongside Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. The group seemed to be indulged in an interesting conversation, which amused the fans on Reddit. This led to the fans discussing the possible scenarios regarding the chit-chat of such an unexpected social hangout. One fan took a dig at Aston Martin’s alleged copying of the RB 18 and said, “he wants the green bull updates to come out early.”

Many joked about Alonso’s possible switch to Red Bull after his contract expires at Aston Martin, a reference to the Spaniard jumping ships. One user said, “Alonso to Red bull 2026 confirmed!” while another user commented, “Helmut signing new members to their young driver program.” Some even contemplated the Spaniard requesting the Austrian team to send Max Verstappen to race in the world endurance championship as his teammate. One fan replied, “Obviously trying to get them to release Max for a endurance race.”

It must be said that this whole thing was probably just a friendly lunch and does not amount to anything significant, drivers and team personnel often meet each other in the paddock. But again this is F1, some time back Alonso’s relations with Lawrence Stroll were seen as nothing, and here we are. In a sport like ours, it is always helpful to have contacts which could lead some doors open, one never knows when they might need it.
