F1 introduces surprise tweak in Miami GP schedule days before Practice Session starts
Days ahead of the second edition of the Miami Grand Prix, F1 has announced a change of schedule.
The Miami Grand Prix is all-set to return this weekend at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida. This will be the first of the three Grands Prix to be held in the United States. The Miami Grand Prix had debuted in the Formula 1 calendar last year when the FIA decided to introduce more races across the pond, in the US, owing to the growing interest for F1 among the Americans. The first-ever Miami GP was a massive success as it became the most-viewed F1 race in the US in the history of the sport.
Taking notes from last year’s Miami GP, the race committee have tweaked some rules to make sure the spectacle is bigger and better in 2023. To increase the revenues, F1 has also planned for a new initiative–the ‘F1 Accelerate Summit’. This is a pre-race conference featuring several sporting greats like the seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Gram Slam winner Maria Sharapova, and the CEO of F1 Academy, Susie Wolff among others.
Only last week, the modified Sprint schedule for the Azerbaijan GP saw the Practice Sessions being completely scrapped as some new rounds like the Sprint Shootout and Sprint Qualifiers were brought in. Now, the Miami GP committee has announced yet another change for this year. This time, the schedule for the race weekend has been shifted slightly forward, affecting the timings for the Practice Sessions.

New schedule change for Miami GP will not affect the timings for Saturday and Sunday
In general, an F1 Grand Prix weekend takes place over three days, with the first and second Practice Sessions being on Friday, and the third Practice Session and Qualifying Round being on Saturday. And the Main Race usually takes place on the last day, that is, Sunday. In case of the Miami GP, the schedule follows this same fashion, but the timings for the first two Practice Sessions have been brought forward from their original start times. But the events scheduled on Saturday and Sunday will take place according to the original timings, without any alteration.
Last year, Max Verstappen had snatched the victory at the first-ever Miami GP, but this time, the stakes are high. With Sergio Perez taking away a resounding win at the street circuit in Baku only a week ago, he is being favoured for the top spot at the race in Florida. If Perez indeed wins, he will get to lead the F1 Championship Standings for the first time in his career.
