Lewis Hamilton, the former 7-time world champion, produced one of his best performances of the 2023 F1 season at during last weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix. From going onto the grass to snatch second place to clinching the fastest lap point at the end, Hamilton produced a masterclass.

While Hamilton has received immense praise for his Mexican GP exploits, F1 pundit Peter Windsor has made it known that the Brit’s fastest lap point has irritated the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen. Windsor feels it was not in the Mexico script for the Dutchman.

While sharing his thoughts on the same in detail, Windsor clarified that Max Verstappen was not expecting Lewis Hamilton to clinch the fastest lap point away from him on an older set of tires. Moreover, has indicated that what would have irritated Verstappen even more was that Hamilton did it on the last lap of the mega 71-lap event.

That would have irritated Max a bit because he always loves to set the fastest lap and at that point he had it. And Lewis set it on the last lap. That brought a smile obviously to everybody’s face in the Mercedes garage and certainly Lewis enjoyed that. If Lewis had known that the tyres were going to last to the point where he could do a 21.3 on the last lap, how much quicker would he have driven?

Peter Windsor said, as reported by Silverarrows.net.

Lewis Hamilton is in touching distance of Sergio Perez in the 2023 driver’s championship

While Peter Windsor has admitted that Lewis Hamilton’s fastest lap point in Mexico irritated Max Verstappen, the former is now near his 2023 rival, Sergio Perez. The gap between the two in the driver’s championship is only 20 points, with three events still remaining in the season.

Perez has so far crawled his way to only 240 points in Red Bulls RB19, whereas the 38-year-old has been continuously chipping away at him race after race and his tally currently stands at 220. Mercedes has done a brilliant job with improving the performance output of the W14 in recent races.

Next up on the 2023 F1 calendar is Lewis Hamilton’s second home race, the iconic Brazilian Grand Prix. The event has proved immensely rewarding for him in the past, and considering this, Hamilton will go all guns blazing during the three-day event at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace circuit.
