The recent upsurge in Red Bull’s scores has established the Milton-Keynes-based team as the best squad amongst all others in 2023. Just two years back, Red Bull were struggling to match Mercedes’ speed as they lost out on the World Constructors’ Championship to the Silver Arrows even after Max Verstappen snatched the Drivers’ Championship title that year. But now, Christian Horner’s team has proven to be unbeatable at every race, no matter the upgrades that the rivals use to capture RBR.

At the Miami Grand Prix that took place a couple of weeks ago, Max Verstappen’s awful luck got him a ninth-place start after Charles Leclerc‘s crash in Q3. But during the Main Race, Max hunted down on all the eight drivers in front of him, including his own teammate Sergio Perez, and finally attained the top spot on the grid within 57 laps, showing everyone the lightning speed and the flawless performance of his RB-19.

Ever since Max Verstappen’s Miami masterclass, all the F1 pundits have been discussing the brilliance of the Dutchman as well as his team. Speaking on how Red Bull manages to excel at every single Grand Prix, Karun Chandhok explained on the SkySports podcast that several factors contribute to their astounding performance. He said, “They’ve got two incredible drivers, the car is quick in qualifying, it manages the tyres well, the engine is strong, it can overtake, the strategy team is brilliant, the pit-stop team is brilliant. There are just no weaknesses in that team.

The DRS or the Drag Reduction System is a major player in deciding the Championship winner in Formula 1. When the cars move at such a high speed, the air produces a drag force that impedes them, but it is up to the engineers to design the cars in such a way that they can minimise the drag.

Speaking on Red Bull’s abilities to eliminate the drag force, Karun Chandhok said, “We’ve had DRS now for 12 seasons and they’ve just gone there and thought, ‘right, we need to find something that gives us this incredible advantage so even if we don’t qualify the front row it doesn’t matter.'”

Karun Chandhok also explained–upon close scrutiny, it has been noted that, where other teams can lose up to 14-15% of the drag force with their car design, Red Bull has mastered reducing the drag force by 25%, giving their RB-19 an extra edge over the others. Now, five races have already happened this year and they have all been won by a Red Bull driver. This has left the fans to see whether the British outfit manages to keep this lead throughout the season, or if they falter in the middle and give way to the rivals.
