F1 visor cameras get a BIG update as internal stabilization technology is being introduced to make the viewing experience better

Formula One

Formula 1 has always been an amalgamation of science and sports, and another big step towards F1 reaching the pinnacle of innovation is the visor camera that is being tested in the helmets of various drivers in this 2022 season. Ever since last year, the FIA have been trying to check if the F1 visor cameras can be successfully integrated into all the helmets in the future seasons of F1, and now a huge update has been disclosed regarding these cameras.

The first time these F1 visor cameras made an appearance in Formula 1 was back in 2021 when Fernando Alonso used a cemra fitted to his Alpine helmet during the Belgian GP Free Practice Session. Later that year, George Russell used the visor camera during his run in the Italian Grand Prix Qualifying Session as well as the Sprint Race. These visor cameras have given full access to the audience to view the racetrack from the drivers’ viewpoints.

The concept of visor cameras is not new to motorsports as NASCAR, IndyCar, etc. have previously used this technique, but it is relatively new in Formula 1 and already, there have come up some reports on how a new innovation is going to improve the visor camera experience in Formula 1. Internal stabilization technique will hopefully take the F1 visor cameras innovation to a whole new level.

An F1 reporter posted about the update on his social media page saying, “With the footage at x3 speed, we can see the camera position automatically move up and down, and as it’s fully secured inside the helmet it means they’ve achieved internal stabilisation on the worlds smallest onboard camera.”
