The Abu Dhabi GP weekend is underway. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz seems to be having a rough weekend at Yas Marina after an unlucky weekend at the Las Vegas GP. The Spanish driver crashed out during Free Practice on Friday. Now, Sainz has failed to make it out of the first Qualifying session for the main race.
The Spanish driver struggled in the early part of the session with his lap time being on the bottom half of the timing sheets. Carlos Sainz tried to make his place in the Top 15 on his final run in Q1. Unfortunately, the Ferrari driver simply did not have enough pace to get himself into the next session. Sainz blamed the traffic for his Q1 elimination on the team radio and even claimed that the two Mercedes cars might’ve slowed him down on purpose.
This result is the first time Carlos Sainz has failed to make it out of Q1 after a staggering 83 races. The last time the Spaniard did not progress into Q2 was during the 2019 Brazilian GP. Certainly, a baffling result for the 29-year-old in what has been a string of two difficult weekends. Although, it remains to be seen how he performs in the race.
Fans mock Carlos Sainz for shock Q1 elimination at Abu Dhabi GP
Fans on X were quick to share their views on Sainz getting knocked out of Q1. One user urged fans to come together and laugh at the Spanish driver. The user even made a pun on Sainz’s name due to the 29-year-old’s tendency to go off track. The user wrote, “Let’s all laugh at Gravelos.” While another fan took a similar dig at the Ferrari driver. The fan replied, “Donkeylos.”
Additionally, one fan pointed out that Carlos Sainz had lost the Qualifying battle to his teammate Charles Leclerc by a massive margin. The fan commented, “Leclerc won the qualifying battle 18-4.” While another user reckoned that the Scuderia was going to have a miserable race on Sunday considering Sainz’s pace. The user stated, “Ferrari are done.”

Certainly, Carlos Sainz will have a lot of work to do in Sunday’s race. The Spanish driver will be starting the last race of the season from the back of the grid. This could make things difficult for Ferrari in its battle against Mercedes for the runner-up spot in the championship. It remains to be seen if the Spanish driver manages to do some damage limitation during the race.
