The Brazilian Grand Prix is celebrated as one of the biggest races in the Formula One roster of each year. The event sees the who’s-who of racing world as well as stars from other sports and also from Hollywood make an appearance. This time, the most surprising spotting was probably of Brazil’s pride Felipe Massa. The former racer is currently involved in a court case against the Formula One Management for claiming his lost 2008 Championship. Another person with an ongoing lawsuit who was present in Sao Paulo is Bernie Ecclestone.
Ecclestone is the former Boss of the F1 franchise and a 90-year-old billionaire. The Briton has been involved in several run-ins with the police. In fact, there was that one time when him and his wife were detained for carrying an unregistered gun in his luggage in Brazil. But Bernie Ecclestone’s most recent legal trouble has trumped all others in terms of the sheer amount of money it involves. It is about a tax fraud where Bernie has been proven to have hidden his assets worth £400 million in Singapore. This way, he has not paid a single penny as tax for the possession of these assets to the HMRC.
Bernie Ecclestone has confessed to have willfully hidden the details of his £400 million assets. Due to his confession, the court has waived their order for his immediate arrest. But he will now have to pay a sum of £652.6 to the UK tax system (His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) as reimbursement for the money he did not pay earlier alongwith proper interest. And SkySports host Martin Brundle brought up this topic while interviewing Bernie Ecclestone.
You’ve had an expensive month thanks to HMRC.

On the other hand, UK-based prosecutor Richard Wright has revealed the astonishing period of time for which Bernie Ecclestone had successfully hidden his assets from the country’s government. He did not have to pay any taxes for his £400 million property from 2004 to 2022. But now, the 90-year-old will have to shell out a sum that is even bigger than the net worth of his hidden Singapore assets to make up for the 18 tax years when he paid zero bucks for holding that property.
