“Thought for sure he was getting booted” – Fans react to Logan Sargeant’s contract renewal at Williams for their F1 2024 campaign

The Williams team had recruited America’s only Formula One hope Logan Sargeant for their 2023 campaign almost a year ago. And all through the recently-ended season, the Florida native showed sparks of brilliance buried by a stretch of unsuccessful outings for the British outfit. With the popularity of F1 in the United States rising by the day, the executives of Dorilton Capital, the firm that owns Williams Racing as of now, made the decision to take a US-born racer under their wing. Unfortunately, Sargeant did not perform impressively at all in his debut season with the team.

As three American races were held in 2023, Logan Sargeant got quite a few chances to shine on home soil. At the Miami Grand Prix in his own state of Florida, Logan was hailed by the fans as he made it to the formation lap as the only American on the grid. Unfortunately, he ended his run at the very bottom of the rankings in the 20th spot. In Texas, Logan Sargeant wowed everyone with a masterful display of his speed as he ended up in P10, gathering a single point for Williams. And again, in Las Vegas, he got an impressive start with P6 in the Qualifying, but fell below the top 10 during the Main Race.

Thus, even after racing for Williams in all the 22 races that were held in the latest Formula 1 season, Logan Sargeant could only gather 1 point as opposed to his teammate Alex Albon’s 27. This resulted in speculations that his team might reject the proposal to renew Sargeant’s contract for 2024 in favor of Mick Schumacher, the reserve driver at Mercedes. But over the last few weeks, it has been declared that Mick will be shifting to World Endurance Championship for Alpine while the recent announcements declare Logan will resume his role as a Williams recruit.

Fans are left unimpressed that Logan Sargeant secures a second F1 season

Logan Sargeant managed to score only 1 point in his debut Formula 1 season. Despite such results, he will be seen driving for Williams once again in 2024. This has not sat well with the fans who believe there are more talented drivers waiting on the sidelines to join F1 in the place of Sargeant. Some of them even blamed him for spending money to buy out a seat in the pinnacle of motorsports since it is known to all that Logan Sargeant is the scion of a rich family with billionaire businessman Harry Sargeant III as his uncle.

In other news, Mick Schumacher, the former Haas driver who was being considered to re-enter F1 by replacing Sargeant at Williams, announced he will move to WEC next season as a part of Alpine’s six-member team. The German driver who is known as the son of seven-time F1 Champion Michael Schumacher, will be seen racing alongside Austrian nobility Ferdinand Habsburg.
