Felipe Massa, the former F1 driver, has once again come into the limelight regarding his ongoing tussle with the FIA, FOM, and former F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone. The infamous 2008 ‘Crashgate’ incident is the main point of discussion as Massa feels he was stripped of the title back then.

The 2008 Singapore GP was a controversial race because of the orders that were given by the then-Renault team to Nelson Piquet Jr. and Fernando Alonso. The former was asked to deliberately crash during the race and that allowed Alonso to secure the victory.

In order to seek justice, Massa has been fighting it out in court and has recently filed a lawsuit against the FIA and F1 for not taking any action regarding the Crashgate incident. He is willing to fight until the close of the overall case.

I always said I would fight until the end. As the FIA and FOM have decided to do nothing, we will seek the correction of this historic injustice in the court. The matter is now with the lawyers and they are fully authorized to do whatever is necessary so that justice in the sport is done.
Felipe Massa saidn in an interview, as reported by Globo

Bernie Ecclestone previously supported Felipe Massa’s decision to fight Crashgate

While Felipe Massa is going all in to seek justice in the 2008 Crashgate and World Championship picture, the former F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, once came out and supported Massa. Ecclestone felt that the Brazilian was right in his decision to fight to secure the 2008 title.

He previously went public with his backing for Massa:

If he had asked me, I would have said it was the complete right thing to do, to sue, and to let an English judge decide what is right and wrong.
Benrie Ecclestone said in a past interview, as reported by Independent

The world of F1 is getting hit with one thing or the other during the 2024 season. From Christian Horner’s inappropriate behavior saga to Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull rumors, the whole paddock has been turned upside down.

Moreover, with Felipe Massa taking the FIA, F1, and Bernie Ecclestone to court, it seems that the off-track action during the ongoing campaign is going to prove more entertaining than the on-track action. Other than the 2008 World Championship, Massa is also seeking monetary compensation of around $164 million for his troubles.
