Aston Martin seemed to have lined up with one of the most competitive cars in the opening round of the 2023 season in Bahrain. Fernando Alonso finished on the Podium in the Grand Prix and won two more podiums in the following races, making it three podiums in a row. The Spaniard won six podiums in the first eight races. As Alonso’s Aston Martin hasn’t fared well in the last few Grands Prix, the driver recounts his blistering start to the season.

Alonso spoke about the car’s performance in the first few opening rounds; he said, as reported by Soymotor“To be honest, fighting for podiums and things like that… I think it was too optimistic. But we were in a very strong position in Bahrain with a car that was performing very well. It was a nice surprise to have such a competitive car there.”

The 2-time World Champion also discussed his future with Aston Martin and their collective goal for next season. He said, “Now we want more. We want to take the next step, which is to fight to win races. Red Bull has been very dominant this year, but next year, hopefully, we will be able to take that step forward.”

Alonso has only managed to bag one Podium out of the last eight races. The Aston Martin isn’t as competitive as it was at the beginning of the season. The team will hope to finish strong and prepare for yet another brilliant opening round for 2024. As for Fernando, he’s always been famous for his stunning race starts, and it seems that this season imitates his fortunes of late.

The Spaniard cited Max Verstappen’s performance at the Singapore GP. Claiming that a bad result didn’t mean the Dutch driver performed poorly, only that he was limited by his car.
