McLaren gave a true shocker to the F1 circles at Silverstone this year when they rolled out their new upgrades. Initially struggling at the bottom of the table, McLaren is now in the race to take P4 away from Aston Martin, whose progress has been the opposite of the Papayas. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso opened up on their fall off, saying that they should respect what McLaren have done this season.
Aston Martin had started off the season on a very strong note. However, they were outpaced by their competitors in their car’s mid-season developments. Adding to that, Lance Stroll’s poor run has also greatly hurt the team’s expectations of securing a P2 finish in Constructors’ standings. Alonso admitted that McLaren is currently much stronger and better than them.
“[McLaren are] very strong and better than us. There is nothing we can do, we just have to respect their performance and they have this drive, but we still can’t give up. Hopefully in the next three races we have a good weekend, we score points with both cars…,” said Alonso, as per F1RD.
Alonso currently stands on P4 in the WDC Standings. He is currently 47 points clear of Lando Norris, who is at P7. While he may still have a considerable lead, McLaren’s consistent solid runs prove to be a big threat to his current position.

Mercedes gives their opinion on McLaren’s upgraded MCL60
McLaren have given hope to every F1 team and fan that their may be still some competition left in the sport. In the midst of Red Bull’s unparalleled dominance, McLaren are the only team who are currently consistently fighting for podiums. Mercedes’ technical director James Allison has recently given his take on McLaren’s new car which has helped them cruise past their rivals.
According to Ted Kravitz, Allison said that McLaren are very strong at medium to high-speed corners. He said that those corners are where they gain the most time. Allison said that while the car struggles in low-speed corners, it is still better than most out there.
“James Allison from Mercedes said ‘you look at where the Red Bull is strong, where the McLaren is strong and it’s in that kind 220 to 250kph bracket,’ which kind of meant that in those medium to high-speed corners,” Kravitz said.
