After completely dominating the 2023 season, Max Verstappen will take home his third world championship title tomorrow in Qatar. This season was an iconic one for Red Bull and Verstappen as they broke many prestigious world records. As they look to wrap up the season with five races remaining, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso recently gave his take on Verstappen.

Alonso said Verstappen might already have reached a level where he can be compared to Michael Schumacher. However, he did say that it might be best that they waited a few more years before giving that judgment. Even then, Alonso has surely seen some remnants of Schumacher in Verstappen. He also said that he hadn’t had many chances of seeing Verstappen’s skills up close on a track like Schumacher’s.

“Well, actually I have only fought wheel to wheel with Michael. Maybe you can compare Max with him, but we have to wait and see. Maybe it will be even better for him and he can add more World Cups with which we can compare him better in the future,” said Alonso, as per SoyMotor.

Verstappen must finish P6 or higher in tomorrow’s sprint race to be named the world champion. While the first place may be sealed, the race for second across both championships will be one to watch. At the same time, Lewis Hamilton fast approaches Sergio Perez for P2 in the WDC standings, and Mercedes and Ferrari are head-to-head for P2 in the Constructors’ standings.

Fernando Alonso applauds Max Verstappen for an outstanding season

The praises are due to come in for Verstappen as he is just at the finish line for his third world title. As he completely dominated the grid, it was inevitable for him to claim the championship. Two-time WDC winner Fernando Alonso recently also praised his competitor for achieving this massive feat.

Alonso congratulated Verstappen for the achievement. While Verstappen’s victories might look too easy due to the RB-19’s performance, Alonso explained how it is much more than that. He said that to have a consistent run such as Verstappen’s without making any mistakes is not a piece of cake. He praised Verstappen’s awareness during changing conditions and weather. Alonso ended by saying that he has nothing but respect for Verstappen.

“I can only congratulate him on this season as it has been incredible, breaking records. When you win so many races in a row, and some of them not easy, especially the period from June to July, with changeable weather, rain at times, without making any mistakes. I just you can have great respect,” said Alonso.
