The Red Bull Formula 1 team has been the top dog in the sport since the dawn of the new regulations last year. The outfit has performed on a whole other level compared to its rivals, and seeing their dominance, the former two-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso, has claimed that the new regulations have failed in bridging the gap between teams.

During the turbo hybrid era, Mercedes had a stronghold over the sport for 7-8 years, and seeing their run, the new regulations were launched last year to close the gap between the various F1 teams. However, the way 2022 and 2023 have panned out so far, the gap has only widened, with the only change being Red Bull taking the throne from Lewis Hamilton and Co.

Fernando Alonso had high hopes for the new regulations, but after a year and a half, he is quite disappointed. While sharing his feelings, he told Cadena Ser’s El Larguero (H&T: PlanetF1), “Something has failed, because of the last 25 races, 24 have been won by a Red Bull, which was not in any of the plans.

I don’t know how those people eat or drink[laughs]. They are the best at everything: they have the fastest car and driver, they don’t make mistakes, they make the fastest pit stops, the best starts, and the best strategies. At the moment they have no weak points and all the teams are working hard to find one for them.”

While Fernando Alonso has made his frustrations known regarding the 2022 F1 regulations, the reality of the matter is that he really can’t do anything about it. The regulations are locked in until the end of 2025, and considering how well Red Bull has nailed them, they are in a prime position to continue their dominant run for quite a few years.

Regarding the ongoing F1 campaign, Red Bull has won all fourteen races, with Max Verstappen currently on a winning run of ten consecutive races. Moreover, Christian Horner and Co. have recently admitted that they have set their targets on winning all the races this year.

The Milton-Keynes-based team has pretty much got the world at its feet for a few years, and while they have faced some criticism for making the sport quite boring, they really don’t bother themselves with the outside noise. The only thing that matters to them is continuing their dominance in the sport for as long as possible.
