Fernando Alonso has been going around F1 tracks for over two decades, and after yesterday’s quali outing in Singapore, he has had enough of the current format. He believes the traffic issues will never get fixed and has, thus, come up with a new approach to fix the issues around qualifying.
Yesterday, quite a few drivers were seen complaining over the radio about traffic, and there were also a few close calls among the various drivers. The reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, even dropped an F-bomb over the radio to let his frustrations known about the traffic issues.
Fernando Alonso thinks that the current qualifying format has become obsolete. While talking about the same, he said, as reported by MotorsportTotal, “Whatever they do, we will find a way around this rule. You have a difficult job managing traffic on a street circuit and I have often said that there is only one solution: an individual time trial.”
He added, “We can test all other solutions, but they will never work. This format is obsolete, I think. It’s been the same for 20, or 25 years now, but the cars are no longer the same. We have hybrid engines, we have to charge, we have to cool the tires – so the only way forward is through one lap.”

Fernando Alonso is starting the Singapore GP from P7
While Fernando Alonso ardently feels that it is just about the right time to let go of the current qualifying format, he on a personal note, had a pretty average quali outing yesterday. The AMR23 has so far not proved to be as potent as many expected at the Marina Bay Street Circuit and because of this reason, Alonso was only able to manage a P7 starting position for the Singapore GP.
Moreover, while the 42-year-old is starting the race outside of the Top 5, his teammate, Lance Stroll had a horrendous outing during the fast-paced qualifying session. The Canadian got knocked out of Q1 after he rammed his car into the wall at high speed and ended his outing on an abrupt note.

Lance Stroll is staring the Singapore GP from plumb last and considering this, the onus is once again going to be on Fernando Alonso to bring home some good points for the Aston Martin F1 team. He has got quite a few quick cars staring around him and several people will have their eyes on him during the race.
