Fernando Alonso praises Lance Stroll for not attacking him unlike former teammate, shares details on their intricate partnership
Aston Martin pilot Fernando Alonso applauded Lance Stroll for his efforts in making sure that their relationship is strong.

Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso has been having the time of his life so far this season. After a good amount of time spent away from Formula 1, the magical maestro came back to the pinnacle of motorsport in 2020. Alonso had won the 2005 and 2006 F1 driver’s championship with Renault so his comeback to the sport with his old
team was mesmerising.
However, it was not all jolly and good with constant reliability issues and unexpected Dnf’s. Apart from that, his partnership with Esteban Ocon was decent but it had it’s ups and downs. However, after he announced his plans to join Aston Martin in 2023, he was laughed on. Everyone in the paddock thought that it was a failed attempt at a shot of redemption.
A few races into the 2023 season and Fernando Alonso already has three consecutive podiums and a fourth place finish in Azerbaijan. His performance so far has been nothing short of impressive. His partnership with teammate Lance Stroll has been great so far with both the drivers co-operating well. The Spaniard has a lot of praise for his junior and went on to praise him for his attitude and work ethics.

Fernando Alonso is glad to have Lance Stroll as his teammate

In an interview with Sky Sports, here is what he had to say about their relationship. “Yes, I tried to help Lance but we cannot forget that also he’s very smart,” Alonso said. “And he’s a driver that I think as a teammate, as we saw in Baku, we spoke about maybe saving tyres, we didn’t know exactly in a sprint format, how long the tyres will last… we were saving tyres and he said, ‘I will not attack Fernando,” he stated.
“Last year I had like maybe the opposite. Always, you know, my teammate, like the first target was me. So that was obviously not beneficial for the team. So, I think Lance is playing also a part in this relationship,” he said. “Right now maybe I’m more prepared to fight for the championship because I’ve been in this position and fighting with top, top cars and at the front,” Alonso continued.
Fernando Alonso has had many teammates over his stint in Formula 1. With Hamilton and Stoffel to name a few, he hasn’t really had the best of relationships with his teammates. However, it seems like the pairing with Lance Stroll has actually been very healthy. It will be interesting to see where Aston Martin finishes this season in the constructors championship.
