Fernando Alonso praises the FIA for an “out of the box” move, yet criticizes the idea because “it can have a double effect”

The latest roiling controversy involving the FIA that has been doing rounds in the F1 paddocks, is the trackside penalty which became more of a farce during the Austrian Grand Prix a few weeks ago. Many a times, the FIA, te committee which makes the rules and decisions regarding driver safety and other such nuances in F1, have given out opinions and regulations that all the racing teams have not agreed upon, and such an incident happened once again during the race in Spielberg. There were almost 40 instances where the racers had violated trackside limits and the FIA went ahead to issue rampant penalties to all of them.
After a lot of protests from te racing teams, the FIA gave more ground to the penalties which they gave out by showing the racers video footage to indicate where they had gone wrong. Alpine racer Fernando Alonso, who is an F1 veteran with two World Championship titles to his name, applauded the FIA for thinking out-of-the-box and giving the video proofs. But he still beliefs something is gravely wrong with the FIA’s decision regarding the penalties in Austria.

Fernando Alonso points out mistakes made by the FIA regarding the trackside penalties
Fernando Alonso has lauded the FIA for their “out of the box” idea of sending all the F1 drivers their specific video demonstrations to clarify why they were given penalties for trackside violations at the recent races, but he still could not completely rule out a loophole that they had missed.
The Alpine driver has time and again criticized the lack of consistency of the FIA when it comes to penalizing racers for the infringement of the rules of racing as he has been punished for several such instances where he felt that his rivals were let off quite easily. Speaking on this, Fernando Alonso said, “Obviously, it (the video demonstration) is something in order to improve things and show us some incidents and why they gave penalties and why not. It is for the good of everyone, trying to understand better their approach.”
He also said, “It has to be seen in the next events because it can have a double effect because when you see a video and that was a penalty, we can have in our mind that [in the race] it could be the same and then [you ask] ‘Why didn’t you give a penalty? So we could enter a series of video reviews that could be interesting.”
