At 41 years of age, Fernando Alonso is busy sparking fires with his performance in the Formula 1 Grands Prix instead of retiring from the run. As the Spaniard is showing no signs of slowing down, he has recently talked about the inspiration he has found in his new team, Aston Martin, with whom he is all-set to debut in the 2023 season opener in Bahrain. Alonso’s move to AMR comes in the wake of Sebastian Vettel’s retirement from F1 at 35, since the German wanted to step away from racing and put more focus on his personal life.

Fernando Alonso had lapped up the chance to make a return to Formula 1 in 2021 with Alpine after his untimely exit in 2018 due to a lack of a prospective seat at any of the teams. With Alpine, Alonso has seen considerable growth after the end of his F1 exile, and last season saw the French team surpass McLaren to capture the fourth place, thanks to some brilliant performances from Alonso and his then-teammate Esteban Ocon. Now that he is moving to Aston Martin, he has some new visions as he believes the British outfit will take him closer to a third World Championship title.

Now, Aston Martin’s campaign in 2022 was upsetting, to say the least. They came below McLaren, Alpine and even Alfa Romeo in the World Constructors’ Championship standings and had to settle for the seventh position with only 55 points. With Fernando Alonso as the newcomer, Aston Martin also hopes to achieve greater feats like getting to the top of the midfield teams by the end of 2023 in the least. And Alonso believes the team’s energy and zest does speak for their drive to get better results in the upcoming season.

As the Formula 1 Champion of the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Fernando Alonso definitely knows a thing or two about the drive alongst the team members that helps the racer get good results. And in the case of his new team, Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso sounds quite convinced as he said, “Next year’s car will be very different compared to this one, so any feedback that you get from this one is not really relevant for when we drive the AMR23. You can feel the energy in the team and how motivated everyone is. I can’t wait for next year. I felt a very special atmosphere in the garage.”

In the upcoming season, Fernando Alonso will have to prove that he has still got it as he is starting a multi-year contract with a new team at 41. And on this quest, he will have Lance Stroll as his partner. The last time Fernando Alonso had won a Grand Prix was back in 2013. Now, it remains to be seen if the Spaniard can turn the tables and get a race victory one decade later, in one of the 2023 Grands Prix.
