Ferrari is the most successful constructor in the history of F1, with 16 constructors and 15 driver titles accredited to its name. However, since the 2008 season, there has been a drought of championship glory in Maranello. People have expected Ferrari to be one of the main contenders in the 2024 season but Marc Gené seems to think otherwise.
Marc is the team’s ambassador and a former racing driver who won the infamous 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009. He has over a decade of association with the team and is a prominent figure in the paddock. He recently tested the SF-24 in the simulator and had first-hand experience of how the car would feel to drive.
Rumors of the SF-24 being rapid in the simulator were spread throughout the winter break increasing the expectations of fans across the world. The Spaniard followed a balanced optimism approach and said that the car is much easier and faster than it was 12 months ago, but it would be difficult to challenge the dominant force of Red Bull and Max Verstappen.
Fighting for World Championships? That's difficult.Marc Gené said at the Gran Gala Mundo Deportivo, via FormulaPassion.it.
How did the drought of championships begin for Ferrari?
Since its last Driver’s Championship win in 2007 with Kimi Räikkönen and the last constructor title in 2008, one must wonder how the prancing horse has not won a single title in almost two whole decades. The struggles began the next year, but no glory found its way to Maranello except a win in the Belgian GP.
Many drivers like Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and even Kimi tried to bring the championship again to the Italian powerhouse, but were not successful. At the beginning of the 2022 season, fans relied their trust on Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, but this championship hope died off early after the reliability flaws and driver mistakes.
Tifosi may have to wait a little longer for happiness as stated by Marc, that fighting the likes of Red Bull might not be possible. Charles Leclerc and Carlos’s lineup is regarded as one of the best so, this combination might help bring the championship to the Italian outfit soon.
