The 2023 Singapore Grand Prix was filled with drama and excitement. With Carlos Sainz starting on pole, many expected for a different driver to cross the finish line first. However, the Spaniard showed immense strength and patience throughout the course of the 62 laps leading to a flawless victory at the Marina Bay circuit. This made him the only Non-Red Bull driver to win a race in the last 308 days.
With Mercedes and Lando Norris putting the pressure on him, the Spanish driver kept his cool and went on to flawlessly win in Singapore. Sainz event went on to slow down to give Norris DRS in order to keep George Russell and Lewis Hamilton from overtaking him. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur was delighted with the Spaniard’s performance. After their disappointment in Monza, a win in Singapore was much needed for the Scuderia.
In an interview, here is what Fred Vasseur had to say about the whole situation. “I was not focused on Red Bull, we have to do the best no matter where Red Bull is,” Vasseur told media including RacingNews365. “In terms of management, Carlos did a fantastic job. From lap one he was really on the controlled side and it was a very good job,” he said. Carlos had to fight hard and tackle attacks from the top 5 constantly in order to secure his win.
Red Bull’s dominant streak has finally come to an end
Prior to the 2023 Singapore GP, Red Bull had won every single race this season with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez at the helm. However, poor setup and issues throughout the race weekend disrupted any chances of the Bulls to grab a race win. During the last race that took place in Italy, Max Verstappen set a new record of 10 consecutive race wins. Now it seems like he will have to start again from zero.
Carlos Sainz’s performance was truly commendable at Singapore. His Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc ended up finishing fourth while Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium. With one of the most gruelling race weekends coming to an end, all focus will be shifted towards the Japanese GP at Suzuka. It will be interesting to see if Red Bull will get their old pace and get back to their dominant ways next time around.
