Former F1 manager claims Red Bull rivals should ‘hang their heads in shame’
Peter Windsor has talked about how Red Bull's competitors are simply not putting in the efforts to surpass them at this point.
Red Bull had been trying to take over Mercedes for a long time ever since Sebastian Vettel‘s unparalleled dominance ended in 2013. With the German’s last World Championship capture, his performance with the Austrian squad somewhat declined, and then he moved to Ferrari a year later. Mercedes took full advantage of this opportunity and maintained a winning streak for 8 long years. And then came the 2021 F1 Championship battle between Merc pro Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Dutch lion Max Verstappen.
In the end, Max Verstappen’s ambition reigned supreme over Lewis Hamilton’s experience after winning seven World Championships. As Max was crowned the winner after a nerve-wracking final showdown at the Abu Dhabi GP, it was almost obvious that Red Bull are back in the form that got Sebastian Vettel his four F1 titles. Since then, Max managed to win a second World Championship almost without any challenge from his rivals, and he is now on the way towards a title hat-trick.
Coming to the 2023 World Championship, after 14 races, Red Bull can very well be declared the undoubted star of the season. Their racers have won every single Grands Prix in this year till now, and the dominance that they have established is difficult for any of the other teams to replicate. Owing to this, former F1 executive Peter Windsor said, “Red Bull are showing that it is possible (to win in the current regulations) and therefore all the other teams have got the wrong approach. Red Bull are showing that everybody else needs to hang their head in shame basically.”

Mercedes’ Toto Wolff compared his team’s dominance with Red Bull’s winning streak
While Mercedes have not won a single race since the 2021 Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil, their Team Principal Toto Wolff is no stranger to success. The Brackley outfit holds the record for the most number of consecutive World Constructors’ Championship wins, and Red Bull successfully destroyed that dominance with their own. Now, Wolff has said, “I don’t know whether our dominance was similar or less. I think we had years where we did it in the same way.”
Whatever be Toto’s opinions, the general consensus is that Mercedes have to pull up their socks and work harder if they want to bring the battle to Red Bull in the next season. Their marquee racer Lewis Hamilton has already claimed that he is optimistic for his team’s chances in 2024 as the developments they have already worked on look favorable for the Championship. Now, it remains to be seen if Mercedes’ form next year shadows Red Bull’s success or if Christian Horner’s team unveils some surprises of their own.
