The last season in Formula 1 has been quite difficult for the eight-time World Constructors’ Championship-winning team Mercedes. While they had dominated the sport during the years between 2014 and 2021, their prowess slowly faded away in the end as Red Bull usurped them from their top position in the standings in 2022, and won the Constructors’ Championship. Even this year, after Toto Wolff‘s assurance that Mercedes would be back to their winning ways, the first three Grands Prix proved the German team has a lot to work on if they want to compete with Red Bull again.

In Bahrain, Lewis Hamilton could find the last spot in the top 5 while George Russell pulled up in P7. At the Saudi Arabian GP, the Mercedes duo snatched the 4th and the 5th spot as well. Finally, the seven-time World Champion managed to finally bring a podium win to the team, and Toto Wolff said that the Melbourne race was the “first step” in his scheme to get Mercedes back to the top spot once again.

But Lewis Hamilton has complained about various factors saying that Mercedes’ poor performance is due to all those problems. Now, Haas’ Guenther Steiner has said, “Your team cannot always just win. It’s human. It’s a competition. Formula One is not Formula Mercedes! Mercedes had eight good years and nothing is forever, as we all know.”

Guenther Steiner thinks that Hamilton should stop his relentless protests and simply accept the fact that his team is not going to win at all times. The Haas Team Principal went on to claim that he was surprised at the Stuttgart-based team’s reaction to their poor start to 2023 as they have not realised the true situation yet.

Speaking on how he believes Mercedes should react to their sudden drop in position, Guenther Steiner said, “Being surprised or not accepting that you go backwards is something I find very strange. You need to regroup and try again.”

Now, Toto Wolff has revealed that he has a grand plan for getting Mercedes back to its winning ways. The Austrian claimed that his squad will be revealing some new upgrades for their W14 car for the upcoming races. It remains to be seen how the new additions amp up Mercedes’ performance so that they can surpass Aston Martin in the Championship standings.
