Carlos Sainz replaced Sebastian Vettel at Scuderia Ferrari in 2021. The Spanish driver surpassed expectations during his first season at Maranello and has continued to deliver decent results. However, Sainz’s current contract will run out at the end of 2024, with Audi interested in poaching the Ferrari driver. Now, Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has given a major update on the 28-year-old’s contract.

Vasseur clarified that the Scuderia is willing to renew Sainz’s contract. However, the Frenchman followed the team’s present stance about discussing the contract later. The Spaniard will stay at Maranello till at least the end of next season. He said, as reported by Soymotors, “We always get the same questions and give the same answers! We have plenty of time to talk, there are still 18 months of contract ahead.”

Lewis Hamilton‘s current Mercedes contract expires at the end of this season. The 7-time world champion has been in talks with the Silver Arrows, but no resolution has been reached yet. However, the two parties are willing to sign on a renewal. It was rumored that Fred Vasseur and Ferrari had approached Hamilton to replace Carlos Sainz at Maranello potentially.

The Frenchman stated that this situation has been the norm for Hamilton and Mercedes. Although, Vasseur was not aware of the reason for the delay. The Ferrari team boss clarified that he was not concerned with this problem as it was on Toto Wolff‘s shoulders. He concluded, “I honestly don’t care, I’m focused on developing our team. It’s something related to Lewis and Toto, not me.”

Thus, Fred Vasseur has hinted at the timeframe for Carlos Sainz’s new contract. The Frenchman was confident that the situation will be resolved before the end of this season, with the Spaniard being aware of his future by the time the 2024 season begins. Although, fans will still have to wait for some time before Sainz and Ferrari conduct the contract talks.
