French GP 2022: Nyck de Vries to replace Lewis Hamilton in FP1
In a surprising turn of events, Nyck De Vries has been reported to replace Lewis’ Hamilton for Mercedes’ first run in the Circuit de Paul Ricard for the FP1 session of the French Grand Prix. This announcement has come as a result of the regulations issued by the FIA, which states that the racing teams have to run rookie drivers in two FP1 sessions across the season.
Reigning F1 Constructors’ World Championship title-holder Mercedes is yet to announce who is going to be the second rookie to drive for them in the FP1 sessions in one of the races to come. Nyck De Vries is Mercedes’ test and reserve driver, and he is also often spotted in the post-race interviews where he usually accompanies Sky Sports’ Will Buxton. De Vries is all set to sample Mercedes’ W13 at Paul Ricard on Friday.
