“You’re still one of us forever” – Gunther Steiner and Haas bid Mick Schumacher farewell with a heartfelt message

Gunther Steiner expressed his gratitude to Mick Schumacher and wished the German well for his future
Mick Schumacher‘s time in Formula 1 comes to an end for now, as the German will be replaced by Nico Hulkenberg at the Haas F1 team next year. Schumacher came home in P16 after an incident with Nicolas Latifi at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, an accurate representation of the 23-year-old’s unfruitful season with the American team in 2022. Mick has made his stance clear regarding his discontent about the team’s decision and the German believes to have deserved a contract extension.
As the season came to an end, however, team principal Gunther Steiner had a farewell speech for Mick, some emotional words as the team and Schumacher diverge paths. Gunther said, “We wish you well. You will always be remembered to be a part here. Obviously we grow apart but I always say you meet twice in life,” perhaps an indication that maybe one day in the future their paths may align again.
Steiner thanked the German for bearing the difficult times at the team, stating, “Mick thank you very much… you kept us going You kept these guys going last when it was difficult I couldn’t do it on my own.” The Haas team boss expressed his gratitude to the 25-year-old who stood with the team throughout the roller coaster journey in the past 2 years and hoped that Mick cherishes the time they spent together, he ended the speech by saying, “I hope you keep it in your memory… we are good people we fight hard you’re one of us and you’re still one of us forever”
Mick Schumacher forced to sit on the sidelines in 2023

After Haas’s announcement of Mick’s departure from the team, the 23-year-old did not have many options left to stay on the F1 grid next year. The only outside chance for the German getting the Williams seat is if Logan Sargeant failed to secure the super license. Unfortunately for Schumacher, the 21-year-old has attained the required points to get the Formula 1 super license and thus will be racing for Williams next year.
The situation thus seems grim for Mick, who despite a stellar junior series record, being both a Formula 3 and Formula 2 champion, has failed to impress his current team for a contract extension and was replaced by a driver who hasn’t had a full-time seat since 2019.
The German has had a disappointing time in the sport, with too many incidents and few good results to count for. Certainly, the 23-year-old deserved to have a shot at the pinnacle of motorsport, but Formula 1 is cruel and Mick has definitely learned that.
